How are you feeling about 2024?

What excites you about 2025?

Most importantly, what are YOU going to do to make your goals a reality?

Sure, there will be things in our life that we cannot plan for. Unfortunately, something unexpected will happen and we may have to rebound or recover, but there is no excuse for not doing our very best to lay our own foundation for success. I am going to make a case for why establishing your 2025 vision should absolutely be part of that foundation.

Keep reading to uncover the top 3 reasons having a clear vision will be the key to making your goals, your dreams, and your desires a reality in 2025.

1) "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there." ~Lewis Carroll

Most of us have some idea of the type of life we want to live. Of some goal or desire that we have. The tough part is making the goal tangible in a way that we can articulate. If I ask - 'would you rather live in peace or chaos', I am willing to bet you would choose peace. 'Do you want to experience scarcity or abundance?' My assumption is abundance. 'Do you want to ascend to a higher position in your organization or remain at the same level?' Ahhhh - trick question. Could be either, depending on YOUR goals. BUT 'do you want to be fulfilled and happy or miserable?' Duh, fulfilled of course. The real question is - what do YOU want. And what do you need to do to create the highest chance of that desired outcome? First and foremost, you need to have vision. You need to make an intentional choice that THIS is the life you want. From there you can determine what steps you will take to move in that direction. Peaceful. Abundant. Fulfilled. Vision allows us to create a clear path toward our goals.

2) We live in a distracted world. Vision creates focus.

Once we decide what we want, we also have to be intentional about eliminating distractions that create more of what we DON'T want. Imagine that you want to be seen as a trusted leader in your organization. After some personal reflection, and reliable feedback from colleagues and supervisors at work you map out your core development areas for the upcoming year. They include things like taking an active leadership role in a project and mentoring a more junior colleague to support someone else's growth while building your own skills. Chances are, you will still be pulled in different directions - responding to every email immediately, taking on tasks outside your priorities, or letting perfectionism creep in. But this is where vision comes in. You notice the shift, you take a step back, and reimagine the vision of yourself as that trusted leader and how this creates a more fulfilling experience for you at work. You make new decisions like scheduling dedicated time for leadership activities, minimizing distractions during work hours, or delegating or resisting the urge to over-commit. Vision allows you to align your daily activities in a way that align with your desired outcome. In doing so, you create the space and clarity needed to make meaningful progress toward becoming the trusted leader you aspire to be.

3) Shit will get hard. Vision helps.

Most of us have faced hard stuff in life. Chances are we will face more hard things in our future. Having a clear vision of your desired outcome is one of the best ways to ensure we keep moving forward, even when obstacles arise. Have you seen Steph Curry's documentary Underrated? I watched it twice in one weekend, and I'm due for a revisit. It just may be the most compelling example of how clear focus and belief can lead to extraordinary results that I've seen in a long time! It is definitely a recent favorite for me. In it, vision plays a key role in Steph's journey as an undersized player overcoming the odds to become a four-time NBA champion. You get a look at how grit, determination, and perseverance help Steph soar to unbelievable heights. Steph's vision is reflected in his belief in long-term goals and his ability to see beyond the obstacles in front of him. His story is a testament for how staying true to one's vision can inspire resilience and achievement in any context. I may have shed a tear. Or maybe it was allergy season, just sayin'. In the pursuit of hard things, we will all face challenges. Vision helps us keep pushing.
